General Testing

  1. Check the version number shown in Splash screen and at the top of the page when GRITS starts and make sure correct version number is displayed in both places

New workspace

  1. Select a new folder as a workspace when starting up GRITS (click Browse and "New Folder" to create a new one)
  2. Check to make sure you see the "Welcome to GRITS" page. Check the version number here as well to make sure it matches the GRITS version number shown elsewhere.
  3. Choose "Yes, Create a new project" and give a name
  4. Right-click on the project and select "delete"
  5. Close GRITS and open it again with the same workspace you've created in 1st step - You should see the same welcome page.
  6. Choose "No, Take me to workspace". You should not see any projects listed under "Project Explorer" tab.

Demo Workspace

  1. Download and open demo workspace: download here
  2. Start GRITS and choose the downloaded workspace as your workspace
  3. GRITS should have a project named "DemoProject" listed under "Project Explorer" tab and it should not be shown as "closed" (red X next to it).
  4. Browse entries by expanding the project (click on the little horizontal arrow to the left of each entry)
  5. Double click on each entry and open them and see if opening each type of entry works without any errors

Testing Project entry

  1. Start GRITS and choose any workspace (Demo or newly created one).
  2. Choose "File->New->Project" to create a new project.
  • Incorrect Values:
    • try entering a very long sentence containing space as the name of the project
    • should get an error message while typing and OK button should be disabled
    • test it again by entering an existing project name as the name of the new project
    • should get an error message saying a project with that name already exists and OK should be disabled
  • Correct value:
    • enter a valid name for a project and click "Cancel"
    • Project should not be created
    • Test again by entering a valid name and click "OK"
    • new project should be created and shown in Project Explorer
  1. Open the newly created project by double-clicking
  2. Make sure the editor area shows project details (Collaborators, Tasklist, Event tables, Description and Keywords areas) and three tabs (Collaborator, Project Task, Project Event) are shown at the right side of the screen
  3. For each of the tables (Collaborators, Tasklist, Event), test the actions listed in the toolbar ("add (+)", "delete ("x"), and "list")
  4. Clicking "List" after selecting a row in any of the above tables should display the details on the tabs at the right side of the screen. Selection of the row also changes the display on the right side tabs.
  5. Editing/changing content of the selection from the tabs on the right side should automatically refresh the tables in the editor area to reflect the changes
  6. Each time you make a change, the project entry should be shown as "dirty" (*) next to its name at top of the editor area). Saving the project ("File->Save") should remove the "*" sign.
  7. Try adding new keywords by clicking "Modify Keywords" button.
  8. Close the project by clicking on "X" next to its name at the top of the editor area. Should get a message if the changes have not been saved earlier.
  9. Test "unchecking" the check box next the the name of the project in the dialog and click "OK". Your changes since the last save should be discarded.
  10. Open the project again, modify the description (or anything else) and try closing again. This time keep the checkbox selected and click OK. Your latest changes should be saved. Open the project again to verify.
